WL 1562
1694
Sir,
Admiralty,
Redd. May 1897. PER I MAY 7
With reference to your letter of the 6th March 1897 No. 22843/96 relative to the proposed scheme for the Extension of the Dockyard at Hong Kong, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, to forward for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies the attached copy of a letter to the War Office dated this day and a copy of the tracing accompanying it.
With reference to the widening of the Murray Pier Road and Arsenal Street, I am to point out that the Commodore at Hong Kong recommends that the road North and South from Murray's Pier to the Queen's Road shall not be widened as it would curtail the Cricket Ground and destroy some old and shade-giving trees; also he understands that the widening of the road (Arsenal Street) leading to the Eastern Praya is not required by His Excellency the General Commanding, but that the existing width of that road and also of the Murray Pier road, will be sufficient to take the traffic.
